neck

How does it work?

  • The NightShift Sleep positioner can be comfortably worn on either your neck or chest.
  • It slowly increases vibration intensity until you change position, typically without waking you up.
  • It also monitors your sleep, allowing you and your physician to measure the effectiveness of this therapy, your sleep quality, and snoring.
  • You can set it to allow either 15 or 30 minutes to fall asleep before it begins to vibrate if you start to sleep on your back.

Clinically proven to Improve your Sleep

Our research has shown that up to 70% of patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea are substantially more severe when back-sleeping 1 . This results from the tongue falling back and blocking the airway and gravity contributing to increased collapsibility of the airway 1.

We also found that 20% of sleep apnea patients would have little-to-no breathing problems if back-sleeping were avoided 2.

In our studies of Night Shift positional therapy 1,3:

What causes snoring and obstructive sleep apnea?

The back of our throat has muscles that support the tongue, tonsils, soft palate and the tissues that hang from the soft palate. In some people, these muscles relax excessively during sleep, narrowing down or completely obstructing the airway. Snoring happens when air cannot freely move through the nose and throat while sleeping.

In positional obstructive sleep apnea, breathing starts and stops repeatedly during sleep and is a potentially serious sleep disorder. Breathing is disrupted for ten seconds or more per episode during sleep. The inability to breathe lowers the levels of oxygen in the blood. This triggers the brain to briefly arouse the person from sleep so that the airway reopens and breathing resumes.

Excess weight, family history, thicker neck, narrow airway, nasal congestion or smoking are some risk factors for OSA and snoring.

Researchers have reported:

  • 40% of adults snore
  • 20% of adults suffer from obstructive sleep apnea
  • 70% of those with sleep apnea are twice as severe when sleeping on their back

The dangers of untreated OSA and snoring

Apart from being an annoyance, snoring and OSA are linked to serious health problems such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, daytime fatigue, depression and anxiety. These conditions impact your relationships as your partner experiences sleep deprivation as a result of your snoring or OSA issues.

Untreated OSA is linked to serious complications such as accidents, cardiovascular disease and premature death.

If you have the signs and symptoms of OSA or are a chronic loud snorer, it is important to get medical evaluation.

At Corinium Medical, we are committed to offering cutting-edge medical devices and solutions that address chronic health problems and enhance quality of life.

The NightShift Sleep Positioner is a product that is in line with our mission to help address snoring and OSA, improve quality of sleep and prevent the chronic health effects of these problems.

How does the NightShift Sleep Positioner help improve sleep quality?

Sleeping on your back worsens sleep apnea and snoring, as the muscles are more prone to restricting your airways in this position. Research shows that sleeping on your side is the ideal way to prevent the throat muscles from collapsing when you sleep and ensures your airways are stable.

The NightShift device makes use of ‘vibrotactile feedback’ and senses when the wearer is sleeping on their back. It then emits gentle vibrations that remind you to sleep on your side.

Clinical studies have shown that untreated obstructive sleep apnea has a significant impact on:
  • Overall health
  • Safety
  • Quality of life

Night shift provides a treatment alternative for patients who suffer from positional obstructive sleep apnea.

Clinical trials show that 90% of participants with OSA experienced 79% reduction in apnea- hypopnea index (AHI). This index measures severity of OSA indicated by the number of times breathing is interrupted partially or completely per hour.

The rich features of NightShift Sleep Positioner

The NightShift device packs in multiple, intelligent features that go beyond gently ‘reminding’ the wearer to turn to their side during sleep. The interactive monitor also:

measure-sleep
Measures sleep quality
loud-snoring
Tracks frequency of unhealthy loud snoring
Features an internet-based Report Portal that helps you

If you have symptoms, or are already diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea, please consult your doctor before using the NightShift.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you were previously diagnosed with Sleep Apnea you are a good candidate for Night Shift if:

1. Your sleep study report shows your “supine” sleep apnea severity is two times your severity when you don’t sleep on your back (i.e., supine apnea hypopnea index (AHI) is twice as high as your non-supine AHI)

2. Your non-supine AHI is less than 20 events per hour

The only way to determine this is to have a sleep study. In most cases, the cost of the sleep study is covered by medical insurance.

Night Shift requires a clinician prescription in the U.S. The Find a Physician network can assist you with obtaining a prescription. To obtain an electronic prescription, ask your physician sign up and use the Night Shift eRx system. Or click HERE to download a sample prescription.

4. Are currently suffering from neck, shoulder, or back pain

5. Have an open cut or would near where the Night Shift is worn (you may need to temporarily discontinue use)

Night Shift delays the start of therapy for 15 minutes after the device is turned on in order to give you time to fall asleep on your back. If you need more time, you can use the Report Portal to increase the delay to 30 minutes.

If you have sleep apnea, you may experience fewer interruptions than you do now. In the previous study of Night Shift for prescription use, both brief arousals, as well as awakenings, were significantly reduced because patients slept more deeply. Users recalled position avoidance therapy on average twice per night, yet they attempted to sleep supine on average seven times per night.

Night Shift should be charged before use. We include a cable that is compatible with a USB charger. The device must be recharged at least once every three days. When it is turned on, it vibrates to indicate the number of nights it can be worn before it must be recharged. It will also indicate when the battery is too low to provide therapy for 8 hours. We recommend that the neck strap and chest belt are washed in dish soap and the enclosure wiped with alcohol routinely to keep them clean.

To use the portal, your computer must have the following:

1. USB port

2. Windows 8, Windows 10, or Mac Operating System

3. Internet access

Yes, the Night Shift includes a two-year warranty covering workmanship problems related to the electronics. The battery and haptic motors carry a one-year warranty and can be replaced for a fee once the warranty period has expired.

The neck strap and chest belt have a six-month warranty and should be replaced every 6-12 months. Warranty does not cover damage attributed to improper use by the customer. Night Shift is a medical device that is not water-proof, pet-proof, or mistake-proof. The warranty will be voided if an attempt is made to open the enclosure or change the battery.

The only way to determine this is to have a sleep study.
